PunkTiger Presents:

Artists That ROCK!

Instead of incorporating these people in my boring ol' links page, I've decided it would be better if these special people had a place all to themselves on my site. I've had a grand respect for artists and illustrators for years (since I can barely draw myself) and even to those who seem to be able to write a gripping or enchanting tale as easily as one might wash their hair. (It takes me two years to write a single story... even then, it's probably so-so.)

Whether or not these people play a musical instrument is immaterial. Their talent roars out louder than any amplifier. Take a moment and browse through these sites. It's amazing what gems you'll find... By the way, these people and sites are in no particular order... just listing them as I remember them.

(Oh... click the "Misc" button to get back to the Miscellany menu. Thanx.)

Herbie "Bearclaw" Hamill

This was a grievous oversight on my part! I've known of Bearclaw's art for a while and I knew he ROCKED! I don't know what aneurism caused me to completely neglect putting a link to his page here, but I'm glad I've finally woken up and done so. For those who don't know of him, he's an excellent cartoon artist and fursuiter. Visit his site right now! It's 100% family friendly and he has an original RealMedia animation which shows just a small example of his fine work.

Nakira/Wookiee

Let's face it. In the furry world, everyone and their twin grandmother has a link to Nakira's site – and with good reason. From his early paintings of horses (works of art in their own right) into the forefront of furry fan artistry, his mastery of anatomy and form has earned him praises from about every corner of the fandom. And he just keeps getting better with every picture. Even his sketches are worth the price of admission. Not to mention that he makes the prettiest, soulful eyes. He was one of the first artists who got me really excited about furry art in general.

K-9

I believe it was on one of the furry newsgroups back in '96 or so that I first encountered the artwork of K-9. Rough angular edges, dynamic poses and an overall playful style made his work a joy to behold. The artist behind the pencil is a great guy as well – I've had the opportunity to chat with him on a few occasions. His artwork has improved over the years, but he hasn't lost that rough playful style.

Chris Goodwin (Paf!)

Paf has got to be one of the most original and innovative artists in the fandom today. He's gone from simple, minimalist illustration, to full-blown artistry. His most recent works include some striking examples of painting-on-woodburning, a medium not many people can do well. One of these wood pieces (entitled "Glimpse"... watch for it) graces my bedroom wall. The man has an incredible eye for composition. I overheard someone at AnthroCon 2000's art show ask with total reverence, "What makes Paf Da Man??" I completely agree. More of his artwork can be found at the Velar archive.

Not only is he a master of the visual arts, but he has also branched out into music. I bought his music CD, "Saracen", at AnthroCon '99. Pretty much in the ambient trance style – quite enjoyable as background music. If you meet him, ask about his music.

Danny Chiarizia

I don't know that much about Danny, only that he's Canadian (Why do so many Canadians I know ROCK??) and his sketches make me swoon like no others. In my (not so) humble opinion, Danny has the gift to render raw strength in a character like I've never seen before. The depth and definition in the chest and belly alone make my knees turn to lime jelly! And I can easily envision a number of his characters as Macros (that's "Giants" in furry-speak, and definitely a bonus for me). His site keeps jumping from place to place, but I always track it down! :-)

CanisLupus

In late 1998, I first encountered the work of CanisLupus in some of the FUR: newsgroups. His style is anime-flavoured without being derivative. It's rough-and-playful and somewhat reminiscent of K-9's work. I had the privilege of hosting him and a few of his friends at AnthroCon 2000 and 2001. All of them were a joy to talk with and to have around. (I'll always remember the "Spam" skit that went horribly, horribly wrong in so many ways!) He's also another Rockin' Canadian!

Mr. Person

This 17-year-old Norwegian's style isn't highly polished, but it just SCREAMS with character! He already has a small, but influential following (at least among those people whom I admire). This person will be one of those people to watch... guaranteed! I also found an updated website for him on Furnation. Have a look!

BigBlueFox

I met the famous BigBlueFox during my times when I was on FurryMUCK more often than I am today. I admit I'm impressed as all get out with him. He's German, and he's self-taught in English. He claims he's not a very good artist, but many people disagree with him (myself included).

ROGUE

ROGUE is a 90-foot tall macrowolf who has a penchant of spinning one HELL of an entertianing tale! But, they usually have to do with giant furries rompin', stompin' and chompin'. I have no choice but to look up to this writer in more ways than one. Sadly, I have a burning jealousy of the man behind the macrowolf. I'm not half the storyteller he is on a bad day. His command of plot, pacing and character is truly impeccable. Looking past the carnage and mayhem, you'll see a tightly woven plot with believable (?!) characters.

David Richards (Foxcar)

David is one of those people who seems to have no trouble writing a novella. His Denworld series is rich in character and background. (not to mention a bit of hot sweaty sex!) Which brings a word of caution: His stories are decidedly male/male homosexual in nature. If this does not agree with your mindset, please do yourself a favour and don't visit this page. The link above leads to his heading in "Miavir's Treasure Chest of Assorted Furriness", a main jump portal for just about any aspect of the furry multiverse there is.

Albert Temple (Gene Catlow)

This guy is one cool black cat! I haven't had the pleasure to meet him personally, but according to those who have, he's one of the nicest people you'd want to meet. Even his artwork has a wholesome gentle style to it. Dynamic, but toony would be the way to describe it. He also has a great sense of humour in his work and isn't afraid to take the occasional jab at himself. If you haven't seen this person's artwork, do yourself a favour and look. Family oriented fun for all!

Jay Shell

This man's art truly ROCKS! When I first saw his "Sheff1" pic in Yarf! Magazine a few years ago, it blew my ever-lovin' mind! The image is stark black and white with the finest example of cross-hatch shading I had ever seen! The pic linked above looks like it has grey shade within it, but that's a trick of the scan. A good photocopy (or the original) will show a painfully huge amount of work getting the fine lines of the cross-hatch evenly spaced... but I'm frothing on here. Take a peek at this artist's body of work, as his talent will speak volumes for itself.

There'll be more in the future... I'll just add them in as I think of them. Thank you for reading and visiting this page!
